HackMaster Basic is an introductory book for the upcoming Advanced HackMaster game, with rules for characters up to 5th level, including four races, four classes, spells, combat, and monsters. The book is divided into a general section suitable for players, with the basic rules and how to create a character. The GM chapters in the back cover monsters, magic, treasure, and how to GM. Since Kenzer & Company's license with Wizards of the Coast expired in 2007, all copyright material has been removed and the default setting has changed to Kalamar. The new game is also more serious, since the silly elements in previous versions were also mandated by the license.
