Green Devil Face is a small 'zine dedicated to traps that require player ingenuity and problem-solving, instead of a simple roll to detect or disarm the mechanism. The first issue is a complete dungeon, but subsequent issues feature a collection of independent rooms and traps. The title is based on one of the more deadly traps in the infamous S1: Tomb of Horrors. Submissions are required to use one of the Open Game License (OGL) clones (Labyrinth Lord, Swords & Wizardry, OSRIC, Spellcraft & Swordplay, or Basic Fantasy), but the traps are compatible with any classic version of Dungeons & Dragons.

| 3 / 10 | Sleeper | While the Gygaxian dungeon crawls were lethal and occasionally random, they were also tightly crafted and on the whole rewarded clever players. This is just random for the sake of being random, and over the top deadly for the sake of being over the top deadly. If more attention was spent on the traps and less on questionable humor, this could have been a decent dungeon. But instead of being a modern take on the Tomb of Horrors, it's Castle Greyhawk with bestiality jokes. |
