A OGL derivation of d20, Mutants & Masterminds (M&M for short) uses a point-based character creation system in place of levels and random generation. In addition to feats and skills similar to those found in standard d20, Mutants & Masterminds also offers effect-based powers as character abilities. The power system, along with the changes made to the usual d20 combat rules to streamline and speed combats along, are two of the game's biggest attractions.

| 9 / 10 | yorrick | I don't care for D20 but I loved this book. It handles a very wide range of character concepts very nicely. A built in system for balancing power levels helps the GM manage the many options. The writing is clear and displays a deep understanding of and appreciation for the superhero comic genre. The book itself is attractive, colorful, and well laid out. Far superior in application to supeheroes to a certain 500 plus page doorstop you'll also see touted. |
| 10 / 10 | DDogwood | Almost a perfect balance between crunchy and fast-playing rules for supers games. |
