Ars Magica is a ruleset for magic-centered gaming in Mythic Europe. The game is set in a Mythic Europe where the stories and legends from medieval Europe were true, or at least more true than not. Demons, saints, dragons and faeries all make an appearance, but the focus of the game is the magi, who are the primary player characters.
The game has an extensive magic system with subsystems for spontaneous spellcasting, laboratory work, enchantments and more.

| 6 / 10 | Skiorht | Rating based on the Lion Rampant editions of the game, since they are the only ones I'm really familiar with. Ars Magica contains a number of innovations, including the troupe-style play, unequal PC roles, and the role of the covenant in play. The rules were however a bit lacking and unintuitive in places. |
| 6 / 10 | FruitSmack! | I love the troop based play. The magic system is also really nice. Haven't played it but I'd really love to someday. |

In consulting DriveThruRPG we've come up with a number of products which we think might be related, but some might be inaccurate because the name, Ars Magica, is so short. Nonetheless, take a look, as purchasing through the RPGnet Store helps to support RPGnet.
