Game Summary
"In ages past you lived many times. Your slaves built the Great Pyramid to honor your death; you died for the sins of Jerusalem; your lost your head suggesting they eat cake.

"Your are Nephilim - demi-god, prophet, saint & magician from the mythic past.

"Again you incarnate, to continue your ancient struggle for enlightenment, and against the plots of occult societies who seek to enslave you and steal your magic.

"Science is an illusion, history is a lie."

Nephilim is a modern-day fantasy game of occult conspiracies, based on the BRP system. It was originally published by Multisim in France, then revised for expansion in the United States by Chaosium.

The line was unfortunately short-lived, with only about a half-dozen publications before it was ended.
Notes on This Edition
This is listed as "2nd edition Nephilim", because it varies notably from the previous edition available only in French.

5 / 10TrippyHippyChaosium's attempt to cash in on the new wave of occult themed games in the early 90s. A translation/adaptation of a French game (which was notably more successful in that country), this game is let down mainly by a lack of a clear purpose, albeit with some occasionally nice touches. The magic system isn't anything particularly special, truth be told, and the conspiracy background is fairly run of the mill too - well researched as it apparently is. The authors seem to be too much taken in by their own beliefs to be taken seriously. One for the Chaosium completists only.
6 / 10g026rThe setting's interesting and the magic system is definitely unique, if a tad fiddly. But I read it, and I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with it. It certainly doesn't help that many of the sparser descriptions for fairly important setting-concepts end with "which will be described in an upcoming book" with the promised book never seeing print before the line was canceled. (An extra editorial pass to catch the typos, jumbled sentences, &c. wouldn't have been out of place either. This is something that plagued the entire line, unfortunately.)
