"Monsters and Other Childish Things is a distressingly fun and action-packed roleplaying game. It's about kids and the relationship-devouring horrors from beyond space and time who love them.
You can make up your own kids, and their own monsters, and all the relationships that make their little lives complicated and their scary monsters happy, and have all kinds of fun."
It uses a simplified version of the One-Roll Engine rules found in Wild Talents, Godlike, Nemesis and Reign and, while the book suggests one of these is useful to play, it really has all the rules you need included. It also has some neat new additions to ORE, including Relationships and a revised hit location where damage targets an attribute rather than a specific body part.
It's a flexible concept, with possible themes ranging from the darkly comedic through to tackling serious issues such as child abuse. The book comes with several sample settings, typical and not-so-typical NPC write-ups, as wells as example characters and monsters. For a thin book it is surprisingly comprehensive and ready to run right 'out of the box'.
