4 + 4joela[Fantasy Week] Pathfinder RPG Alpha Release 3. Striving to be the 3.x heir in the wake of Dungeons & Dragons 4E, the third alpha release of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game still looks more like a collection of houserules than a coalescing ruleset.
4 + 4mxyzplkPathfinder RPG Alpha Release 1. Paizo Publishing forks D&D looking to produce a better, more streamlined version of 3.5e while forgoing some of the massive changes of 4e. The free alpha version is up to their usual high standards!

8 / 10SJBenoistThough the game does feature a few minor changes and clean-ups, this is actually a slick move by Paizo to keep the 3.5 PHB available. Well-timed too, as the WOTC version is getting increasingly hard to find. (9/2008) Note, all the basic races and classes (as of the Beta) have been "upgraded" in terms of power, to make them more appealing in light of later options appearing in various supplements.
8 / 10Zachary The FirstDespite still being in Beta, a nice job of keeping the core framework while making the conscious decision to increase improvement by level to make for more even development. Haven't had any issues with using old 3.5 material, and great for tourney play thanks to the familiarity most players have with the basics.
