100% Fantasy Role-Playing Game System

The 100% Fantasy Role-Playing Game System uses four traits: Body, Mind, Sense, and Spirit. Characters are further defined by 26 races ("Heritages") and 26 professions ("Trades"). The basic mechanic is 1d100 plus the number associated with a trait plus a variable number of 1d10s. If a natural 10 is rolled on any of the extra d10s, another d10 is rolled and added to the result. Difficulty levels ("Ruling Levels") range from 20 to 200. The Game Master is referred to as the "Game Designer", and PCs are recording on a handful of cards instead of on a character sheet.

Dungeon Squad! Coin Op

Dungeon Squad! Coin Op is an arcade game-inspired modification of the original rules light Dungeon Squad! roleplaying game. The players are called "Hero Guides", and have up to two characters under their control. As in DS!, each character is created by assigning three dice (d4, d8, d12) to three abilities (Explorer, Mage, Warrior) and Hero Guides attempt to roll equal to or over a difficulty number (default is 4) using the appropriate die when attempting an action.

The game is broken into "stages", each of which occur in a distinctive setting or location. Monsters and traps have values, and at the start of each encounter the GM pulls the appropriate number of tokens (pennies or quarters) from a pool in the center of the tabel. Hero Guides then earn these coins by defeating the traps or monsters, and spend the coins for character advancement. The GM also awards loot, but only in an abstract sense; Hero Guides are responsible for describing where the bonus comes from (i.e. a bonus to Mage can come from a magical amulet or just increased personal skill).

Complete Dungeon Squad! is a free, rules light roleplaying game based on Dungeon Squad!. The biggest changes are the addition of a point buy system instead of the original's simple die allocation character creation method, a magic point system when using spells, and "pacts" that provide certain mystical benefits but proscribe certain behaviors. Other smaller changes include the addition of freeform talents that provide a one die step bonus to related actions, new rules on dungeon hazards, and an expanded spell list.

Released under the Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareLike 2.5 Creative Commons license.

Pirate Squad! (PS) is a variation on the Dungeon Squad roleplaying game, except geared toward swashbuckling pirates. Like it's predecessor, PS is targeted at very young players and features an extremely simple set of rules and lots of dice rolling and shopping. Characters are still created by assigning three dice to three profession-based traits, although the Warrior and Wizard traits from the original game are replaced with Swashbuckler and Sailor. Difficulties (roll equal or higher using the trait's die) still range from 2 to 6, hit points are the same, and equipment can have its own die or increase the die associated with a trait's size. Instead of spells, there are "tricks" like "pirate's roar" or "first aid". Concludes with genre-appropriate opponents and equipment.

Released under the Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareLike 2.5 Creative Commons license.

Dungeon Squad: Adventures in the 41st Millennium is a variation on the extremely rules-light Dungeon Squad roleplaying game that has been adapted to the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Characters are still created by assigning three dice to three profession-based traits, although the Warrior and Wizard traits from the original game are replaced with Combat and Engineer. Character types like Imperial Guard Commissar are added, each of which provides a bonus to either hit points or a single trait.
Alternate Dungeon Squad is the precursor of Advanced Dungeon Squad (ADS), both of which are modified and expanded versions of the short 24 hour RPG Dungeon Squad. Characters are created by assigning four dice (d4, d6, d8, and d10) to four abilities (Body, Mind, Soul, and Reflexes) and choosing a class, instead of the three profession-based abilities in the original. Tasks are still resolved by rolling the difficulty or higher on the appropriate die, though difficulties now range from 2 (easy) to 10 (nigh impossible). The Persona trait (determined by a random die roll) and more character options are added, while Ranks (levels) provide a slightly more structured advancement method. More than three times the size of the Alternate version, the Advanced version has more character classes and a greatly expanded bestiary.

Both are released under the Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareLike 2.5 Creative Commons license.

October's Shadows

October's Shadows: A game of struggle and survival in Revolutionary Moscow casts the PCs as a group of people from a variety of social classes and political affiliations who live together in a mansion in the wake of the October Revolution. The house is intended to serve as a microcosm of the chaos in Soviet Russia from October 1917 to September 1918.

The players define their own characters, including a pair of related NPCs. They then collectively define their environment, including the physical nature of the house they live in, elements of the house that can influence external events, and other NPCs affiliated with the group. Over the course of the following months, different events and conditions are thrown at the group, who use their own traits and the traits of affilated NPCs or household elements (including "the gun", the only way to kill another character) to perform actions (including electing a leader during the subcommittee meeting). Contests are resolved by rolling a die for each relevant trait, earning "books" as they are alternately revealed. During their turn, the two players describe their actions and how they counter the other player's actions, with no conclusive results until books are spent to purchase goals. Goals include injurying an opponent, meta elements like ending the conflict, changing relationships, or making permanent changes (to either character; concept is not sancrosact).

The thematic center of the game is the transformation of the new recruits into battle-hardened soldiers. Characters are part of a platoon, and are assigned missions that range from capturing a prisoner to interrogate, to scouting out enemy lines. Missions start at the Base, and travel through the Trail (a maze of trenches and observation posts, that may involve wandering encounters) to No Man's Land (where they have to fight the mud and possible enemies).

Uses a 3"x5" index card for a character sheet. Awareness detect threats, Aggression is used to attack, Steadiness is calmness under fire, Motivation is used to go into dangerous situations. Characters choose the other members of their unit that are most important to them, and measure mental strain using Stress. Combat has tactical elements for support elements like hauling an ally or taking cover, but reactions and the chance of injury are based on the cumulative volume of fire not specific attack rolls. Characters under too much Stress have Episodes.

Holodomor

Holodomor is a roleplaying game set in the Ukraine during the winter of 1932/1933, when the collectivation of the farms led to the deaths of an estimated eight million peasants. Players take the role of poor kulaks (farmers) who try to get food anyway they can before they starve to death.

Characters are defined by their Nutrition, or the number of days until they die from hunger (starts at 40), which is used for most actions and doubles as hit points. The basic mechanic is 1d10 plus Nutrition/4 against a target number. Each character chooses any number of things they feel strongly about (Emotions) and assigns an intensity from 1 to 10. The total number of Emotions is the Moral score, which is used for initiative and can hinder others who try to act against the character. Emotions can be permanently reduced to succeed at actions, and acting against an Emotion increases Despair, which measures the will to live and can be raised to gain a mechanical advantage.

Darkness Without Form: Secrets of the Mimic

Most adventurers assume mimics are just wizard-created guardian monsters, and don't even think about them until a treasure chest sprouts arms and fangs. But mimics have a secret legacy—they were created by the aboleths to help dominate the surface world and enslave humanoids, and the well-known dungeon predators are merely the survivors of these experiments gone rogue.

In this book you'll find out more about the history of the mimics, the aboleth-symbiote "landwalker suit" that is the progenitor of all mimics, two kinds of humanoid-symbiote mimics, and more than a dozen new mimic abilities.
