8 / 10MulrahThe book itself is well-written and exciting, but gameplay always tripped up over the rules. GURPS was an eye-opening game coming from the rigidity of D&D, and it remains one of the cleanest, most playable generic system, but there are so many other more interesting, simpler games out there.
8 / 10SJBenoistYes, it is more of a toolkit than a fleshed out "game". But what a kit!
7 / 10von Bek1977Love this book for the realism of the rules without necessarily making the GMs brain ache. Good for when you want a nihilistic view of the world.
7 / 10GitrogI know I've played this, though I can't remember what edition or much about it, except that it works well enough. It's no Hero system, though...
6 / 10Jon HastingsI've only played/read 3rd edition GURPS: I used GURPS more as an inspiration for generally freeform-ish gaming than I ever actually _played_ it by the rules. All-in-all, though I preferred Champions when it came to detailed point-build systems, I admire a lot of the design of this game. At this point, I'd be much more likely to play the Fantasy Trip than any actual GURPS game.
5 / 10ShannonAI've always found GURPS as a rule set to be, at best, an average game system. Very mechanistic, and not a good fit for any setting. I love some of the background material they've produced, but the rule system often seems to suck the life right out of it.
5 / 10ThanuirA generic toolkit game, the one I compare others against. Supplements are where the real gold is.
3 / 10Simple ManComplicated toolkit that didn't work well for some genres despite it's "universal" moniker.
