10 / 10alberonnThis is my personal favorite RPG of all time. While I love a lot of different systems, the unique setting and the easy-but-powerful rules makes this game a joy to play. What is really cool is that most of the editions are available for free and legal downloading at talislanta.com. Thank you Steve Sechi!
10 / 10RPG_WombatThe Big Blue Book of Doom is easily one of the greatest combinations of wide-open setting and elegant rules system. Plus, no elves.
10 / 10owe for the fleshThe perfect RPG in the perfect book.
10 / 10Ars MysteriorumThe best sandbox ever.
10 / 10KrypterA fantastic game world with a huge assortment of exotic races, creatures and non-Tolkien influences. This hardback book includes all the rules, GM instructions, a bestiary and a campaign setting that will blow your socks off. Highly recommended.
10 / 10NightwalkerTal 4 is a setting and system that has managed to recreate the excitement I felt when I first discovered tabletop RPG's. Anyone with any love of gaming deserves to have this weighty tome on their bookshelves. Seriously, if you don't have it, you'd better get it now before it's gone forever.
9 / 10FlexiA truly unique rpg. Rules only make up 20% of this remarkable book. The rest consists of a bewildering but wonderful amount of imaginative setting material. I am still unconvinced of the validity of the magic system & the character archetypes but who gives two turtle shits about game balance anyway.
9 / 10Kenny BaniaGreat system. Great setting.
9 / 10TeloricI was one of the first to purchase this book, hot off the press. Simply put, this is one of the best roleplaying books and systems that I've played in my 24+ years of roleplaying. If you haven't played Talislanta, you are truly missing out...
9 / 10astromancerThe depth of the world is fantastic, yet open, and provides a unique, magical fantasy realm setting (yet not the standard D&D races) that is mature yet wild, and with more realistic rules (HPs and attributes don't go up, for example, but abilities and expertise do). It also allows for a good deal of GM creativity, but yet with enough structure; and as another commenter said, the GM is not smothered in details, so the game mechanics are not intimidating. There is a learning curve to the setting, but it's not that significant if you just start in one part of the world and focus on it. The community of Talislanta players is a plus, even if the numbers are smaller than some of the biggest games. I would say that certain mechanics aren't specified clearly enough in 4th Ed., but it's not a problem if you can be a little flexible, and the 5th Ed is probably going to clarify those things better anyway.
9 / 10NathanHillThis is a massive tome, ripe with ideas of for fantasy games of all sorts of subgenres. On its own, it's one of the best fantasy games ever made - an easy to grasp system that can be tweaked in a direction that fits your style, tons of adventure seeds and imaginative places to explore, and truly a game that is time-tested. You should own it - it's worthy.
9 / 10Rob DoupeA nice marriage of flexible system with baroque setting. This is the game and setting I would have come up with if I had spent most of my 20s kicking back and letting my muse run free. Thankfully, someone else has done the work. Years and years of wild, fantastic, exotic fantasy gaming in one massive tome.
7 / 10PiestrioOne of the best one volume games ever written. Big enough to provide years of gaming while giving the GM plenty of materal to work with without smothering him in detail. The setting gets a lot of love, but the rules are also fantastic. It uses a d20 and a simple chart of DCs to determine most everything. A great rules lite system
7 / 10Sprue RubblesIt's like reading a fantasy National Geographic. It covers a huge area with just enough details for the GM to customize it as his/her own. One of the best RPG settings.
6 / 10Simple ManBig and impressive and scary.
1 / 10BlueSunBeyond funky, but basically another fantasy RPG.
