10 / 10FinalJustice13This really captures the Marvel Universe at the time is what made and holds up even today with a great system.
10 / 10BobalooAdmittedly, I was quite the Marvel Zombie back in those days, but this was my first exposure to something resembling a universal system. We used this game from the most character driven games I've played to the opposite end of the spectrum where we basically ran danger room/arena battles. The maps and standups were well done, and really added to the game's appeal.
10 / 10philreedA great game. Anyone that has ever played for an extended period of time knows what FASERIP means.
10 / 10SJBenoistStill hasn't been equaled in my book for 4-color, 1980's style superhero action. Simplicity, flexibility, and intutiveness make this one a classic. Note: As of 2006, this one is still in demand. It regularly sells for double its cover price.
9 / 10Ben LehmanIt's still the gold standard for a straight-up superhero game.
9 / 10JDCorleyAdded significantly to the Basic Set without losing any of the charm or effectiveness.
9 / 10Jon HastingsI think this still holds up as one of the best super-hero RPGs. Perfectly captures the tone and spirit of Marvel comics.
9 / 10Tommy BrownellThis was arguably my favorite RPG...the first one I ever purchased...until Saga came along. Definitely a classic, and one of the finer purchases I have made.
8 / 10sak0232Ahhh, nostalgia!
8 / 10SleeperTook the original beer & pretzels game and made it campaign-worthy.
7 / 10YokiboyNice addition to The Marvel Super Heroes game, but not as good as the original. I base this on the fact that the original game was a great introduction to the hobby of roleplaying, in a close to perfet package. This advanced set is only for established fans of the original game, that want more crunch.
6 / 10Waldo PepperI bought this when it originally came out and always thought it was a fun game - while it it's pretty much just a combat engine, it does that part pretty well IMO.
6 / 10leonmallettBased on the original game, it was okay and very much of its time. If we included the 'Ultimate Powers Book', then my rating would go up by one or two.
6 / 10yorrickThe original Marvel was fun for a while, but there are much better systems out there now that let you emulate many conventions of the genre and a bigger range of power levels wihtout needing to house rule them. The game's best feature was the sheer number of fairly detailed roster books and sourcebooks available for it. And you can find almost all of this stuff available on the web in .pdf format for free, which is a major plus if you go on a nostalgia kick and want to run it now.
5 / 10GrafsterFun for the comic book collector. I enjoyed playing with the tables and so forth when I was in grade school. You could almost certainly run a fun game, powers are randomly generated and goofy (I squish your head with my AMAZING strength) but it's really a nostalgia game for old-timers (like me).
3 / 10Simple ManBy today's standards, it has several flaws in design.
