10 / 10Eosin the RedGreat source fall fantasy world building.
10 / 10ghost-angelThe book is massive, and it covers just about anything you could think of. It doesn't just tell you how to play High Fantasy - it goes into numerous genre's of fantasy from Sword & Sorcery to modern Urban Fantasy. And then you get into all the Hero goodness: several magic systems, archetypes, races, the works. It's truly one of the best genre books I have ever encountered.
9 / 10BigJackBrassWorthwhile for any fantasy GM, regardless of system.
9 / 10Pierce InverarityTons of sensible, rock solid, non-HERO-specific info on fantasy gaming of all flavors.
8 / 10DrFaustIncredibly thorough. It covers almost all the angles, though it reads like an academic term paper.
4 / 10FlexiRidiculously crunchy and most of the book is too much hard work unless you are into the HERO system. It can be mined for useful generic advice on fantasy worlds, races & civilisations and has good examples of various magic systems.
1 / 10Marius BA huge and staggeringly pointless book. Contains a long and tedious chapter on what the fantasy genre is based, presumably, on the assumption that the person who bought a huge HERO system titled "Fantasy HERO" was someone who had up until that point never heard of that genre. There's a lot of crunch all of which is very poorly thought out and of no use at all with the exception of the Perquisites chapter on p. 98-101 and the Encumbrance chart on p. 152. To paraphrase Monty Python: This is not a book for reading, this is a book for laying down and avoiding.

4 + 5James GillenFantasy Hero. "I have seen the mountaintop. And it is good."
5 + 5Will MistrettaFantasy Hero. Bigger than God, and quite possibly better.
3 + 4Alan D. KohlerFantasy Hero. The Hero System's latest incarnation of its fantasy genre book makes what was good about it's predecessor even better, but despite its girth, loses a few features in the process.
4 + 5ghost-angelFantasy Hero. An extensive look at creating a Fantasy game with the Hero System.
