10 / 10YuriPRIMEOne of best systems I've played and really detailed world worthy of many sessions. Dynamic and thrilling combat giving real sense of threat and risk. At the same time it manages to succeed where so many projects failed. HG gives you system that at it's base is very simple and quick, but without sacrificing complexity. It's not dumbed down, but elegant with it's solutions and philosophy. It also presents skill system in completely different light and perspective, all due to d6 based unique mechanic, where instead of getting ridiculously high or low results, depending on the Will of the Dice Gods, the Silhouette system by Dream Pod 9 affects the chances. Characters adept in particular skill will perform equally well in taks at hand, rather than ranging from super-human levels to utter garbage. It uses universal and simple modifiers that players and GM can gain or loose depending on circumstances and that is the core of the crunch. Wheather you are an absolute master or a green scrub, you can always win with careful planning and thorough execution. Tactical system for the wargame/strategy part of the game, is a real treat as well. Combat is interesting with the smallest amount of troops and in fact favors small formations skirmishes and precise strikes rather then grand scale battles, more reminiscent of modern war scenario on much personal level. To make up for Modest battles, HG gives us more details on each machine, instead of so popular now days one-wound-one-shot approach. Tactical wargame part is intermixed with RPG system, thus allowing your pilots, their specialities, feats, talents and skills to make a real difference in whatever machine they operate, making battles all more exciting, failures far more punishing and victories vastly more sweet, as death or development of a crucial pilot may mean a powerful blow to your forces or a major advantage in a campaign, teaching players it's better to command wisely rather than wasting valuable assets.
10 / 10sfsctLove this game and all of its fluff and mechanics
10 / 10AshigaruFor my money, the best science fiction RPG of all time. Excellent rules tied to a detailed, intriguing setting. Beautiful artwork, to boot.
10 / 10BoboHottest and most immersive hard-sf background I've ever seen. The planetary setting rocks, and it doesn't even have to have military walking tanks in it. But it can.
10 / 10johnnypeA beautiful game that's tons of fun to play.
8 / 10pelo88Wow this is a blast from the past! My friends and I had dabbled with Mechwarrior and loved Robotech but I distinctly recall having such fun with Heavy Gear. I wish I still had my copy.
7 / 10TomahawkA great system with excellent rules and background/world information, but suffers some from "what do I *do* with it?" syndrome.
