Game Summary

Unnofficially labeled 'Book 1', though that title didn't make it onto the actual printed book.

Mercenary is a detailed expansion for the Traveller game, and the first in the line of Core Supplements. With advanced options for Soldier and Marine characters, any player with an interest in infantry combat will find something of value in this manual.

With new weapons and tactics, career options, and the lucrative mercenary ticket system, Mercenary puts ground combat front and centre.

2 + 4ShannonA. Mercenary is a flawed book with lots of good ideas and interesting systems that don't gel into a whole. Still, it's probably useful for a military Traveller campaign and less so for other sorts.
4 + 4kafka. The good ? corrects the rules from 1e and presents the rules in a better way with better art. The bad sticks close to the war game ideal of Traveller not the RPG aspect with numerous charts and rules better suited for minis. The Meh?read my review.

7 / 10FlexiA good merc ticket/contract system with a good variety of missions. Very good career options for military characters. There should have been rules for PC's to be fully involved with the unit based combat for large scale battles.
6 / 10ShannonAA real hodge-podge of material. I think the average GM isn't likely to get a *lot* of use out of it, but someone running a mercenary campaign will be very happy with the material--despite the lack of an overview for a mercenary campaign.
