FASERIP is the second retroclone of the original 1980s
Marvel Super Heroes roleplaying game (which is often called "FASERIP", after the first letters of the 7 primary abilities). Though it's only loosely a clone, copying the power ranks, the universal table, and the stunt rules, but changing the rest of the systems. Some key difference include a new set of rules for character generation inspired by
Golden Heroes, a combat system that's a fusion of the rules from
MSH and
ICONS (with some custom tweaks on top), new rules for experience and inventing, Karma must be used in play for character advancement instead of hoarded, and a power list is based on the
ICONS supplement
Great Power. Unlike the earlier clone (
4C),
FASERIP (obviously) retains
MSH's ability names.
From the publisher's website:
FASERIP is a retro-clone that emulates an old out-of-print super hero role-playing game. For legal reasons, the game that it emulates can't be named anywhere within this site or within FASERIP itself. However, this doesn't matter. If you know the game then you will pretty much instantly recognise it, and if you don't know the game then you can play FASERIP on its own merits.
FASERIP covers all types of hero from the lowest powered street-hero to the most powerful cosmic entity, and its mechanics can also be used for playing in other RPG genres, with four example alternate settings included within the book.
Character sheets for FASERIP are included in the book itself, and can be easily printed from the PDF.
