As a supplement to Vampire: the Masquerade, Kindred of the East provides player and GM information on playing the Kuei-jin, a species of vampire indigenous to Asia in White Wolf's original World of Darkness setting. Unlike the Kindred, Kuei-jin are dead people who clawed their way back to the living world for various reasons, such as settling old scores or finishing some monumental task.

Kuei-jin have their own unique Disciplines, cosmology, societal structures and overarching goals and agenda -- namely, achieving some sort of enlightenment about their condition and purpose in the world. The book also delves into the geography of Asia in the World of Darkness, and who populates the land, with regards to supernatural beings.
