Game Summary

Mannerism RPG uses a unique Approach based resolution mechanic so that there is no randomness or point spending whilst still being able to surprise everyone. Simply describe how your character acts while the GM imagines what failure looks like and resolve.

The game is about becoming a mage and overthrowing the sorcerers who would keep you imprisoned to prevent you coming into your power.

It's about whether you decide to be open to others and play to your strengths, subjecting yourself to a tragic destiny or whether you will keep your true self hidden to surprise your enemies, but constantly overthink and never let anyone in.

Characters advance in line with how they are played in this simple but deep game.

9 / 10Cool GuyI'm glad I'm the first to review this title! I've yet to play the game, but from reading it through I enjoyed it's approach-based resolution mechanic. The system is well integrated, the advancement mechanic encourages players to keep things fresh, going through every approach they can to advance. I purchased the game after reading an Twitter promotion about it's story. The idea of being under the watchful eye is enticing, and I'm glad to say the game successfully expresses that sentiment throughout it's mechanics. From first read, I cold tell there was intentional focus and directed design throughout every facet of the game. So, why 4/5 stars? The formatting left something to be desired. The art, while public domain was well selected to the game's theme, so no gripe there. However the sheets and texts presentation don't have anything that elevates the game. The layout overall seems more like a test copy, so that it doesn't feel finished. The game's meat is all there, but it lacks plating, so to speak. If you're reading this review, I still recommend the game. If pretty pages are not part of your criteria, consider this a 5/5. I feel this lack of polish is from a lack of funding, the creator has great ideas, but probaly can't take in a graphic designer or have any artists on board. So, please support the title. Indie creators with talent need recognition. Mechanics 5/5 Story 4.5/5 Formatting 3.6/5
