7 / 10SleeperThe intro fiction has a promising in medias res start, but quickly falls into the "tell, not show" trap. The actual scenarios range from excellent to just medicore:
  • "Swap Meet" is far and away the best, with unsettling but intriguing characters and extensive background details and advice for GMs. The Meet itself is easy to slip into an on-going campaign, and serves as a great general-purpose plot device.
  • Runner ups are "The Green Glass Grail", a complex and extremely open-ended scenario that is also an awful lot of work to develop;
  • and "Garden Full of Weeds", a very dark and dismal exploration of racism and urban poverty.
  • Less successful but still useful are the bland and forgettable "Stoon Lake";
  • and "A Few of My Favorite Things", which while moody and surreal is ultimately an empty exercise in style over substance.
  • The worst is "Drink to That", a loosely-connected sequel to the core rulebook's "Bill in Three Persons", which is uneventful, has a major clash between its stated intent and implementation (the premise requires the PCs to be engaged by a sympathetic NPC, but the character comes across as a whiny abuser), and has a weakly justified climax.
8 / 10Zounds!Six scenarios that range from the merely good to the mind-blowingly awesome.
