Swords & Wizardry (Core Rules) is a retro-clone of the original 1974 version of Dungeons & Dragons ("0e"). The Core Rules include some material from the game's 1974-1976 supplements (primarily Supplement I: Greyhawk), which makes it fairly compatible other early editions of D&D and the retro-clones they inspired. (The author's intent was to create the "rosetta stone" behind all early versions of D&D.) By comparsion, the White Box version pares away everything from the supplements, making it soley a clone of D&D's original 3-Volume Set.
The Core Rules include a number of suggestions for tweaking and altering the game, including optional rules. This helps emulate the often-vague original rules, which required a certain amount of DM interpretation. Changes from the original include support for both ascending and descending armor classes and merging all the different saves into one.
The parent system is: D&D / Original.
Subsidiary systems are: Corruption, Crypts & Things, Dangers & Dweomers, Hideouts & Hoodlums, Renegade, Swords & Wizardry / White Box, White Star, X-plorers.
