Chill 2nd Edition (1990 Mayfair Games edition)
|
Edition Summary | [ Edit Main Info ] |
The game mechanics for the 2nd edition of Chill vary considerably from those in Pacesetter's 1st edition, and the tone of the Mayfair version is much darker than the original. The PCs are still investigators belonging to "SAVE", but the initialism has been been changed to the Societas Argenti Viae Eternitata (the Society of the Silver Way), dropping the "Albae" (White) to avoid potential negative connotations.
The second edition of Chill was released in 1990 as a single hardcover book, with an accompanying pamphlet. There were a total of 11 supplements, as well as a fiction anthology (Chilled to the Bone). The core rulebook was also issued in a softcover version, and the Chill Companion and Chilled to the Bone are available in both hardcover and softcover.
The Beast Within is a stand-along RPG, though it uses the same ruleset and setting from a different perspective: the PCs play the "monsters" of the Feral World. Mayfair's Cyber Chill and Chill by Gaslight were completed but never saw print, while Orphans of the Night and A Chill in the Fog were aborted earlier in the development cycle.
After OtherWorld Creations failed to publish a 3rd edition in 2007 (releasing only preliminary PDFs), Growling Door Games acquired the license and successfully published a new (3rd) edition based on the Mayfair setting and system in 2015. Cryptworld is also a descendant of Chill, but is based on the previous (Pacesetter) edition.
