Game Summary

Covering levels 1–5, the Starter Kit is a "basic set" for the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition-inspired Myth & Magic retro roleplaying game. The first part of the book is for players and covers classes, races, action resolution, and spells. The last third of the volume is for the GM, and has monsters, treasure, magic items, reference tables, a character sheet.

Changes from AD&D 2nd edition include minor tweaks to stats (percentile strength is gone), all checks are converted to roll high (e.g. the target number for attribute checks is 24 minus stat), the calculations for THAC0 are shifted around (ACs are flipped, with 10 being the worst), and many spells are renamed (even those released under the OGL).

8 / 10CalimarSo far I have been quite impressed with the starter kit for Myth & Magic. It captures the feel of 2nd edition while at the same time giving the rules a refreshing update. You can tell that the creators have put a lot of effort into this product, and even the free starter kit looks professionally done. Best of all is that, even with the rules updates, it is completely compatible with your existing 2nd edition products. I highly recommend jumping over to New Haven Games website and getting your free copy of this starter kit.
