Chainmail was the game that ultimately gave rise to Dungeons & Dragons. It was published through three different editions in the 1970s, then kept in print by TSR sometime thereafter.
In 2001 the name was co-opted by Wizards of the Coast for their new miniatures game. Although technically that new iteration was the 4th edition of Chainmail, realistically it was the 0th release of the Dungeons & Dragons Miniatures game (which was itself released under that name in 2003).
Subsidiary systems are: Platemail, Spellcraft & Swordplay.
